NRL 2022 Round 13
NRL 2022 Round 13

With the first game of the State of Origin set to take place next week, Round 13 of the NRL will be an interrupted one, with eight teams set to enjoy byes and many players missing as a result of SoO duties. Nonetheless, there are a couple of big games to get excited about. On Thursday night, the Cowboys look to bounce back against the struggling Titans, before the Panthers take on the Bulldogs on Friday. Then, the Sea Eagles face the Warriors on Saturday night, and the round concludes with a big clash between the Raiders and Roosters on Sunday afternoon. Check out our previews for all four games below.

Gold Coast Titans vs North Queensland Cowboys

June 2 – Cbus Super Stadium, Gold Coast – 7.50pm

The Titans disappointing season continued last weekend as they gave up a monumental lead against the Broncos to go down by 11 points. That sent them tumbling to 14th place with a 3-9 record, and it doesn’t get any easier in Round 13. The Cowboys failed a significant test against the Panthers last weekend, failing to score and going down by 22 points, but halfway through the season they’ve demonstrated that their early season form was not just a flash in the pan. They need to win this one to maintain their hold in the top four, and should be able to do so against the Gold Coast.

Penrith Panthers vs Canterbury Bulldogs

June 3 – BlueBet Stadium, Penrith – 7.55pm

A matchup between first and last on the NRL ladder wouldn’t particularly loom as a particularly interesting one, but while the Panthers will still head in as comfortable favourites, the absence of a number of their stars due to State of Origin duties should make things a little more interesting. The best team in the league, they are now two games clear at the top of the ladder and look all but a certainty to finish in the top two, while the Bulldogs are a game and plenty of goal difference adrift on the bottom with little hope of gaining much aside from experience from the rest of the season. This might not be the blowout it would be any other week, but the Panthers should still be far too strong.

Manly Sea Eagles vs New Zealand Warriors

June 4 – 4 Pines Park, Sydney – 7.35pm

The Sea Eagles’ first game without superstar Tom Trbojevic, who will miss an extended period of time with a shoulder injury, went roughly how many people expected it to, with the Storm proving far too strong in winning 28-8. The Sea Eagles are now in 11th place with a 5-7 record, and without their best player in the lineup are suddenly up against it to make the finals. The Warriors also suffered a disappointing defeat last weekend, going down 24-16 to the Knights in a loss that put them two games and a significant amount of goal difference outside the top eight. After four consecutive losses, the door is quickly closing on what would have been an unlikely finals appearance. Both of these teams need a win to stay in touch with the top eight, and it’s the Sea Eagles who should be too strong on their own home turf.

Bet on the Sea Eagles to win @ $1.65 (BoomBet)

Canberra Raiders vs Sydney Roosters

June 5 – GIO Stadium, Canberra – 4.05pm

At half-time last week, it looked as though the Raiders might be ready to make a genuine tilt at the top eight. Following consecutive strong wins over first the Sharks and then the Rabbitohs, they held a two-point lead over another finals contender in the Eels. Unfortunately, they gave it up in the second half and went down by eight points, but nonetheless they have demonstrated in recent weeks that they can’t be counted out just yet. They do, however, need to keep winning, and they have a tough task doing so this weekend against the Roosters. Sydney were terrific last weekend, beating the Sharks 36-16 to move to 7-5, and another win this week could see them jump inside the top four. This should be a really exciting game to finish off Round 13 of the season, and in a tight one the Roosters who can get the job done on the road.

Bet on the Roosters to win @ $1.65 (Palmerbet)
